- First, it’s a nice looking piece of equipment. I got the woodgrain model. It’s worth the extra few $$ in my opinion. To a man riding by on horseback, it looks like real wood.Second, it sets up and unfolds pretty easily — unfolds almost too easily. When you get ready to fold up, you set the thing with its front skyward and its back on the table and just press upward slightly the front lip of the top section, whereupon one or both side sections come crashing down, making a big bang — which you may not want made. I quickly learned to lift the front of the top with one hand, and control the speed of the side fold-down with the other. But bottom line, it’s super easy and quick. As is set up. Set it with its back (which will be the part facing the audience) on the table), lift what will be the top part that holds your notes so that it is straight up, and fold open both sides, which click into place nicely, holding the top part up while the top part keeps the sides apart and in position. And it’s fairly sturdy. I wouldn’t lean on it. I don’t think it would fold on you, or break — but I’ve not tested it. But the bottom of the two sides and the front are the only parts in contact with the table it’s sitting on, and I could see it scooting. But at 12 pounds and with pretty good engineering in the way it fits together, it’s not going to fold up on you in the middle of your presentation because you bumped it, let alone because a gust of wind blew thru the roomHowever, its Achilles heel is the strap that holds it together when its folded, allowing you to carry it or store it in a smaller space than when it’s unfolded. First, there is only one strap on one side, and it is a made of cloth, and it is a little longer than it should be, so it does not hold the heavy pieces together snugly. Which means there is movement, which, along with the fact that it’s cloth and there is only one of them, means it is going to wear faster than it would otherwise. So while it is technically portable, when that strap breaks/wears out, it will no longer will be. And the looseness means that it doesn’t feel comfortably portable when you’re carrying it. Or at least it means that it didn’t feel comfortably portable when I was carrying it. In fact, the last time I had to carry it from one building to another, although a very short distance, I carried it set-up; one can easily carry it that way, given where the handle is.If you don’t plan to carry it much at all, I’d give it a 5. If you plan to carry it a lot, I’d give it a 3. If you plan to carry it about as much as i do, I’d give it a 4. [...]
