- This device was surprisingly small when I received it but it seems powerful. It is undetectable to humans except in Test Mode, when it put out a loud, high frequency tone that was annoying even to me. It has 3 modes available – Ultra, which uses an ultrasonic speaker to deter certain pests, a Trans mode which uses a transducer for others and Duo, which enables both simultaneously. I run mine in Duo mode to deter both pests and insects, which I imagine most people will too. It also has a flashing strobe light to further deter pests, like some other devices have. I have a dog and a pet bird and neither seem to be bothered by the frequencies in Duo mode so that’s a win for me. It’s been running about a month now and I haven’t seen one mouse scatter when I open the garage door. The booklet says it’s for indoor use but my garage stays fairly warm in the winter so it should be fine. All in all, I think it’s a cheap investment if you store your car in the winter or have other items you want to protect.Update 2/20/2023:I have had this up and running for several months and saw no mice/rats but a few weeks ago I noticed that some additional bait pellet traps I put out in each corner of the garage were nearly empty, meaning something had gotten in there and eaten them. So… this unit may help but I would also supplement it with bait traps, pellets, etc. I had the Virine unit in dual mode (for both mice and rats) and the strobe flashing but evidently if the vermin are hungry enough they’ll come in anyway and my garage is small; barely big enough to park the car in. Better to be safe than sorry. I wouldn’t want mice getting into the car or under the hood and start eating wires instead of bait.
