- I sanded mine with fine grit paper just to make it a bit smoother to match my other wooden utensils. I used it for the first time yesterday and it handled well making quick work of a gallon of sauerkraut. It’s pretty hefty but not too heavy. It only had one flaw and after I sanded it a bit it ended up being a perfect place to rest my thumb. I used butcher block beeswax to seal it up and now it has a prized place on my butcher block at the ready to roll dough or squish cabbage.
